Modern Warfare II PC requirements & build guide

Competitive and Ultra 4K are separate profiles. Plan your PC around the version, mode and settings you actually want to play.

Choose a target, then compare the evidence. Publisher profiles and SpecVora’s planning estimates are shown separately.

Minimum and recommended requirements

Desktop specifications from Activision, checked 24 October 2026. Laptop variants need separate verification. An older model listed here is a reference point, not an instruction to buy that used component.

What the publisher’s targets mean

Recommended / High

60 FPS in most situations, High; resolution not specified

Hardware is listed in the recommended box above. VRAM: 4 GB.

Ultra 4K

Ultra 4K; numeric FPS not specified

CPU: Core i9-9900K / Ryzen 9 3900X
GPU: RTX 3080 / RX 6800 XT
RAM: 16 GB · VRAM: 10 GB

The recommended profile does not state a resolution. Do not silently interpret it as a native 1080p, 1440p or 4K guarantee. Higher-profile wording also does not certify that every scene reaches your selected FPS.

Competitive and Ultra 4K are separate profiles

Modern Warfare II publishes a distinct competitive profile between recommended and Ultra 4K. Competitive hardware includes an i7-8700K or Ryzen 7 1800X, 16 GB RAM, an RTX 3060 Ti or RX 5700 XT, and 8 GB VRAM. It describes high-refresh use without assigning an exact FPS number.

That is useful context if you want smoother multiplayer without paying for a 4K-focused GPU. Compare current tests at your intended competitive settings. Do not assume that choosing Ultra in a calculator is necessary to make use of a high-refresh monitor.

Keep the game’s identity clear when searching used-PC listings or benchmarks: Modern Warfare II is this release, not the older Modern Warfare 2 or its remaster. Ask for the full title and the test date. Similar naming is a poor substitute for evidence of the exact game you will play.

Choosing your display target

For 1080p, research a balanced CPU and GPU combination. For 1440p, compare graphics-card results at that resolution rather than scaling up a 1080p result. If you want 120 FPS or more, look at slower frames and CPU behaviour as well as average FPS. Record whether a test uses native rendering, upscaling or generated frames.

Build Finder’s Low, Medium, High and Ultra choices are editorial planning tiers, with ray tracing and frame generation off. Its FPS selector expresses your goal. It does not report a measured result or duplicate every publisher profile. Check exact motherboard, RAM, cooler, case and power connections before purchasing the proposed component families.

Storage and setup checks

The official requirements article checked for this guide does not specify the base installation size. Its optional high-resolution asset cache is up to 32 GB for minimum, recommended and competitive, or 64 GB for Ultra 4K. These cache figures are not the game’s total size. Build Finder uses a clearly labelled 200 GB editorial base-space allowance plus cache and general overhead; verify the actual launcher requirement before selecting a drive.

The linked article is a desktop launch-specification reference. Recheck current publisher notices and your launcher before buying; an older specification is not a promise that every later update has identical requirements.

DirectX 12 compatibility and broadband are part of the publisher specifications. Check the current Windows and driver guidance on the linked support page. For Intel Arc hardware, verify title-specific requirements and platform configuration rather than assuming every listing applies to every Arc card.

Investigating stutters or uneven performance

  1. Record the mode, resolution, rendering settings and exact hardware. Repeat a comparable gameplay section before changing anything.
  2. Separate low rendering performance from connection symptoms. A position correction or delayed online response alone does not identify a GPU problem.
  3. Lower rendering resolution while keeping other settings consistent. If performance changes substantially, investigate GPU load; if it does not, investigate other limits rather than automatically buying a CPU.
  4. Check free SSD space, background downloads, memory pressure and temperatures. Follow the publisher’s current troubleshooting and driver advice for this title.
  5. Compare frame-time spikes and slower frames, not just a single average. Change one variable at a time and keep notes.

Before buying an upgrade

Write down your full CPU and GPU model, RAM configuration and power-supply model. A processor upgrade can require a new motherboard or memory; a graphics-card upgrade can require different connectors or more clearance. Price the complete change and compare recent independent tests of this exact release.

Common question

Is the 200 GB allowance an official install requirement?

No. It is an editorial allowance used by our estimator because the checked publisher page does not state a base install size. Confirm the current requirement in your launcher.
