Hearts of Iron IV: PC requirements & hardware guide

Keep simulation speed separate from image quality.

Keep simulation speed separate from image quality. Use the source notes and the tests below to research the PC you need.

Published requirements and known gaps

The boxes show the requirements recorded in our source-linked catalogue. Missing fields remain unspecified; a broad hardware family or an API description is not an exact model recommendation.

Minimum

CPUCore i5-750 / FX-4300
GPUGTX 470 / HD 5850 / Iris Xe G7 / Radeon Vega 11
RAM4 GB

Recommended

CPUCore i5-2500K / Ryzen 3 2200G
GPUGTX 570 / Radeon HD 7970 / Iris Xe G7
RAM6 GB
Important context: Publisher Windows minimum/recommended requirements;

Build estimate not assessed. This page helps you research requirements and hardware. A game-specific Build Finder recommendation is not available yet; published minimums alone do not establish an FPS prediction.

Keep simulation speed separate from image quality

Compare the same save, date, mod set and speed setting. Record the time taken for a fixed in-game interval alongside visual smoothness.

Simulation speed is a separate result

Compare the same save and time a repeatable interval at a recorded simulation speed. Measure rendered FPS separately. Lowering resolution can help identify a graphics workload, but it does not establish that turns or simulation will progress faster.

A repeatable comparison

  1. Record the exact game version, CPU, GPU, memory configuration and settings.
  2. Use the same save, scene or activity where practical; note anything that cannot be held constant.
  3. Change one setting or rendering resolution, then compare sustained performance and pauses separately.
  4. Check temperatures, memory pressure and background work before attributing a problem to one part.

Storage and setup

The catalogue space guide is 2 GB. Treat it as an installation-planning reference, not a total PC drive size or a measured current download. Small installations may be rounded up in the catalogue. Check the publisher notes and launcher for exact content, updates and additional space.

Check the game’s current operating-system and platform requirements directly. Historical game specifications may name Windows versions that are no longer supported by the distribution client. A specification for one edition, branch or platform does not certify another.

Before paying for a PC or upgrade

A quiet early campaign cannot establish late-save simulation performance. Research the CPU platform rather than using the GPU as the only buying criterion.

Ask for the full processor and graphics-card models, RAM stick configuration, available installation-drive space and power-supply model. Price any motherboard, memory, cooling or power changes needed for an upgrade. Similar product-family names and equal VRAM capacities do not establish equal performance.

Use our requirements and benchmark checklist to assess evidence, and our first gaming PC guide to budget for the complete setup. No hands-on benchmark results or guaranteed FPS figures are claimed.
